Andrew Mertz

Andrew Mertz enjoys a thriving commercial law practice focused on commercial real estate transactions, secured lending, and business law. He finds satisfaction in representing several community and regional banks, experienced real estate developers and ambitious entrepreneurs. Andrew’s finance background and undergraduate business degree help him to understand his clients’ objectives and the practical constraints often involved in achieving that end. Andrew’s clients appreciate his business acumen and his knowledgeable, reasoned, and practical legal advice.

Twenty-five years’ experience representing financial institutions provides Andrew a valuable perspective in his approach to resolving the daily challenges faced by his clients. His clientele benefits from the wisdom gained through facilitating a multitude of various real estate and business transactions. Andrew is accomplished at closing commercial real estate sale and loan transactions, commercial construction loans, U.S. Small Business Administration loans, loan purchases between lenders, loan workouts, and foreclosure proceedings.

Andrew is also adept at representing both lenders and borrowers in real estate construction and financing projects. His skill is in part derived from representing a variety of clients in assorted retail projects, industrial development, office complexes, apartments, condominiums, residential, and golf course communities. A significant portion of Andrew’s practice involves the acquisition, development, financing and disposition of properties, negotiating and drafting contracts, CCRs, easements, leases, inter-governmental agreements and other real estate related agreements and instruments. This representation also includes establishing owners’ associations and condominium regimes, and facilitating I.R.C. §1031 tax deferred like-kind property exchanges.

A keen grasp of business law is the perfect complement to a commercial real estate and secured lending practice. Andrew’s thorough understanding of business law enables him to organize various limited liability companies, corporations, and partnerships, and to advise his clients in the management and operation of these entities. His aptitude also benefits clients in the purchase and sale of an entire business organization or, in many instances, just certain assets.
